This week was spent wondering when or if the Southern scheme for the proposed development north of Alimore Lane would be back on the agenda, after being postponed due to lack of time. So far no news is good news. It is perhaps wishful thinking to hope that both schemes will be withdrawn and resubmitted as one. Something interesting I became aware of recently is that we are not alone in our concerns regarding over-development. Warwick are complaining about 1700 homes with Kenilworth also very concerned. However, the proposed scheme for Alcester is still, proportionately, one of the largest in the region.
On a much lighter note the community cinema had its first screening on Friday at the Jubilee Centre. This is an excellent project and has only come about through the hard and vigorous efforts of a small band of volunteers. The original idea came from the Youth Council and their efforts certainly paid off on Friday with the inaugural screening of a new Bond classic in the making – Skyfall. We should be very proud of this facility and remember it is all Alcester’s.
One event I attended this week was choral evensong at Coventry Cathedral to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen’s coronation. A Royal birth is also in the offing; let’s aim to make it a celebratory and excellent summer.
