Summer has arrived. I can say that because we have returned to the good old days of a hot and dry day for the Street Market – and what a scorcher. I was very pleased to be asked to open proceedings by the High Bailiff. We had a number of dignitaries from neighbouring towns and parishes attend. It was with great pride that I escorted them around the Malt Mill Lane complex and everyone agreed how special it is (did I detect some envy?). The market was very well attended. I never count people at these events but it seemed as good as any of the best. There were so many people that it took me over 30 minutes to get from the church to the Bear for a welcome pint with the High Bailiff! In one of those chance meetings en-route I got talking to a couple who have just moved to Alcester from Exeter. Their praise for the town and its events was fantastic to hear and it’s always wonderful to welcome such enthusiastic newcomers. We left around the time it was turning from a street market into a street party with an excellent band playing outside the Turks. What an great day!
